A small island, comprehensively covered
Aruba is about 30km long and among the most developed islands in the Caribbean, sitting outside the hurricane belt with a tourism industry built over decades. Mobile coverage across the populated western side is thorough.
Oranjestad, Palm Beach, Eagle Beach and the hotel strip are all well served, as is the road down to San Nicolas. The Arikok national park on the wild eastern side is patchier, particularly around the natural pool and the rougher tracks.
An honest word on cost
Aruba is our most expensive Caribbean destination per gigabyte, and among the priciest anywhere on our list. That's wholesale pricing in a very small market rather than anything we've added.
Given that, the practical advice is straightforward: buy the smallest plan that covers your time away from Wi-Fi. Aruban hotels almost universally include it and the island is small enough that you're rarely far from a connection you're already paying for.
Getting around
The island is easy to drive and the main roads are well signposted, but the tracks through Arikok toward the natural pool need a 4x4 and are genuinely rough. Download offline maps before heading that way — it's the one part of Aruba where being without a connection actually matters.
