Telcel where it counts
Your eSIM connects to Telcel and AT&T Mexico, both on 5G. Telcel matters here: it has the widest footprint in the country by a distance, and it's the difference between having signal in a small Oaxacan town and not. Rural Mexico is where cheaper eSIMs quietly fall over, because they only carry the challenger network.
The Yucatán, the Riviera Maya, Mexico City and the main Pacific coast towns are all solidly covered. Expect thinner signal deep in the Copper Canyon and on the more remote stretches of the Baja peninsula.
Cenotes, ruins and the coverage gaps you'll actually hit
Most of Mexico's famous spots sit in decent coverage, but the archaeological sites and cenotes are often a few kilometres down an unpaved road with nothing on it. Pin your route before you set off. Chichén Itzá and Tulum are fine; the smaller cenotes off the Ruta Puuc are a coin flip.
How much data to buy
A week on the Riviera Maya with maps, translation and the odd video call runs comfortably on 3 GB. Two weeks moving around the country is a 5 GB job. If you're road-tripping Baja or working remotely from Mexico City for a month, 20 GB removes the maths.

Questions, answered
Does it work on Telcel, or just the smaller networks?+
Telcel is included, alongside AT&T Mexico. That matters outside the resort areas — Telcel has the broadest rural coverage in the country, and plenty of budget eSIMs don't carry it.
Can I use it in both Cancún and Mexico City on one plan?+
Yes. It's a single nationwide plan, so there's nothing to swap when you move between regions. The same eSIM covers the Yucatán, the capital and the Pacific coast.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
