Travel advice comes first
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Afghanistan, and states that consular support is not available there. Standard travel insurance will not cover a trip made against that advice.
We list the destination because connectivity matters to those with family in the country, to humanitarian staff and to journalists. It is not a leisure recommendation and we won't present it as one.
Roshan coverage
Your eSIM connects to Roshan on 4G. Coverage concentrates on Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and the larger provincial centres, along with the main ring road connecting them.
Afghanistan is extremely mountainous and much of the country has little or no network. Service can also be interrupted at short notice for reasons entirely outside any provider's control.
Practical notes
Afghanistan is among our more expensive destinations, reflecting wholesale rates in a difficult market. Plans start at 1 GB for £7.99.
If you are travelling in a professional capacity, your organisation will have communications protocols and security arrangements. This should be treated as supplementary to them, never as a substitute.

Questions, answered
Should I be travelling to Afghanistan?+
UK travel advice advises against all travel and notes that consular support is unavailable. Standard insurance won't cover you. Check the current FCDO guidance. We list the plan for those with family there and for humanitarian and press work.
Will the connection be reliable?+
Coverage exists in Kabul and the larger provincial centres and along the ring road, with very little across the mountainous majority of the country. Service can be interrupted at short notice for reasons outside any provider's control.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
Networks
Your eSIM hops onto the strongest of Afghanistan’s local networks automatically — no setup, no choosing.
