TashiCell in the valleys
Your eSIM connects to TashiCell on 4G. Bhutanese settlement follows the valleys, and so does the network — Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, Wangdue and Bumthang all have workable coverage, as does the main east–west highway between them.
The high passes, including Dochula and Chele La, are patchy. Anything off the road network is unlikely to have signal at all.
Tiger's Nest and the trekking routes
The climb to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest monastery, takes two to three hours each way and has reasonable coverage for much of it, thinning near the top.
The longer treks — the Druk Path, the Snowman — go well beyond coverage and should be planned on that basis. Bhutan requires visitors to travel with a licensed guide and a daily Sustainable Development Fee, so you'll have local support arranged regardless, which is worth remembering before you rely on your own phone.
How much data
Bhutanese itineraries are guided and fairly structured, so data use tends to be modest. 1 GB at £3.99 covers a short trip; a fortnight taking in the eastern valleys wants 3 GB. Hotel Wi-Fi is common in Thimphu and Paro.

Will I have signal on the Tiger's Nest hike?+
For most of the climb, yes, thinning as you approach the monastery. The longer treks like the Druk Path go well beyond coverage entirely.
Do I need this if I'm travelling with a guide?+
Not strictly — guided itineraries include support and most hotels in Thimphu and Paro have Wi-Fi. It's useful for staying in touch with home between stops and for anything you want to look up yourself.
How do I install it?+
