Why this costs £1.00 and St Lucia next door doesn't
Martinique is an overseas department of France and part of the European Union — not a territory or a dependency, but France, with the euro, French administration and French mobile networks.
That's the entire reason your eSIM here costs a fraction of what it does on neighbouring St Lucia or Dominica, thirty miles either side. Same sea, same climate, wildly different wholesale rates, purely because of which country the island legally belongs to.
Orange coverage across the island
Your eSIM connects to Orange on 5G. Fort-de-France, Les Trois-Îlets, Sainte-Anne, Le Diamant and Saint-Pierre are all well covered, as is the road network around the coast.
The interior — the rainforest of the Pitons du Carbet and the flanks of Mount Pelée — is thinner. The hike up Pelée loses signal as you climb, which is worth knowing given how quickly cloud closes in up there.
How much data
At these prices there's little reason to run tight. 1 GB is £1.00 and covers a week of maps and messaging. 5 GB at £3.99 comfortably covers a fortnight with photo uploads — roughly a tenth of what the same allowance costs on the English-speaking islands nearby.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Why is Martinique so much cheaper than nearby islands?+
Because it's legally part of France and the EU, so it runs on French networks at European wholesale rates. St Lucia and Dominica, thirty miles either side, sit in small-island markets where data costs several times more.
Will I have signal climbing Mount Pelée?+
It thins as you ascend. Worth noting because cloud closes in fast up there and the summit is frequently in it — download the route before you start.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
