The central mountains around Adjuntas and Jayuya are thinner, as is the Cordillera generally, but the main routes hold up well.
El Yunque and the bio bays
El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest system, has coverage along the main road and at the visitor centre, dropping off on the trails and toward the peaks.
The bioluminescent bays — Mosquito Bay on Vieques, Laguna Grande at Fajardo — are night trips by kayak, and coverage is limited once you're on the water. Worth confirming your tour details in advance, particularly for Vieques, which needs a ferry or a short flight.
Plan sizes
Note the tiers here stop at 5 GB. For most trips that's plenty — a week of maps, beaches and driving runs comfortably on 3 GB at £7.99. If you're working remotely from San Juan for a month, plan around that ceiling.
