An honest word on the price
Samoa is our second most expensive destination per gigabyte, after Monaco. £24.99 for a single gigabyte is a lot of money, and it reflects wholesale rates in a small, remote Pacific market rather than anything we've added.
For comparison, Fiji is £2.99 for the same allowance. If your itinerary includes both, the difference is stark and worth planning around.
Our honest advice: buy the smallest plan that covers what you genuinely need, and lean on accommodation Wi-Fi, which most places provide.
Bluesky across Upolu and Savai'i
Your eSIM connects to Bluesky on 5G. Apia, the Upolu coast road, the airport at Faleolo and the main settlements on Savai'i are all covered.
The interior of both islands is mountainous and forested with far less signal. The beach fales along Lalomanu and the south coast generally have coverage, though it varies by property.
Fa'a Samoa, and a practical note
Samoa observes Sunday very seriously — most businesses close, villages hold evening prayer curfews, and travelling through a village during sa is not appreciated. Plan your movements around it rather than discovering it at a road block.
That's the kind of thing worth reading up on before you arrive, not looking up on an expensive connection while sitting in a hire car.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Why is Samoa so expensive for data?+
Small, remote Pacific market with limited competition and high wholesale rates — not our markup. Fiji is £2.99 a gigabyte against Samoa's £24.99. Buy the smallest plan you need and lean on accommodation Wi-Fi.
Is there coverage at the beach fales?+
Generally along the Lalomanu and south coast strip, though it varies by property. The mountainous interiors of both Upolu and Savai'i have much less.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
