STC on 5G
Your eSIM connects to STC on 5G. Saudi Arabia has invested very heavily in mobile infrastructure and the results are strong — Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Medina, AlUla and the main highways all have excellent coverage.
The Rub' al Khali, the Empty Quarter, is one of the largest sand deserts on earth and is exactly as covered as that suggests.
Tourism is new here, and worth understanding
Saudi Arabia only began issuing general tourist visas in 2019, and the visitor infrastructure is developing quickly but unevenly. AlUla and the Red Sea projects are polished; plenty of other places are not set up for independent tourists at all.
That makes data more useful than usual — maps, translation and ride-hailing do real work here, and information changes faster than guidebooks keep up with. Note that Mecca and Medina have areas restricted to Muslims, which is a legal restriction rather than a practical one.
How much data
A week covering Riyadh and AlUla runs on 3 GB at £6.99. A fortnight adding Jeddah and the Red Sea coast wants 5 GB. There's a 50 GB plan for longer work trips.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Do I need to register the eSIM?+
No. Registration requirements apply to SIMs bought inside Saudi Arabia. Your eSIM is issued before you travel and works on arrival with no paperwork.
Is coverage good outside the cities?+
Along the main highways and in the developed tourist areas like AlUla, yes — the infrastructure is genuinely strong. The Empty Quarter and the remote interior are another matter entirely.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
