Du 5G across the Emirates

Your eSIM connects to Du on 5G. The UAE has some of the best mobile infrastructure anywhere — Dubai and Abu Dhabi are blanketed, including the Metro, the malls, the airport terminals and most of the way up the Burj Khalifa.

The desert between the emirates is covered along the main highways. Head properly into the Empty Quarter on a dune safari and you'll drop out, which is rather the point of going.

WhatsApp and FaceTime calling — read this bit

Voice and video calling over apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger and Skype is blocked on UAE networks. This is a national regulatory restriction that applies to every network in the country, local SIMs and travel eSIMs alike. It is not something any provider can switch on for you, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you something.

Text messaging, photo sharing and normal data use all work perfectly. If you need to make calls home, the licensed local apps like Botim work, or use your regular UK number.

How much data for a UAE trip

Hotel and mall Wi-Fi is excellent and everywhere, so most visitors use less than they expect. A long weekend in Dubai runs fine on 1 GB. A week with heavy ride-hailing and maps wants 3 GB. Business travellers tethering a laptop should take 10 GB.

Questions, answered

Can I make WhatsApp calls in the UAE with this eSIM?+

No, and neither can you with any other SIM or eSIM there. App-based voice and video calling is blocked nationally by regulation across all UAE networks. Messaging and data work normally, and licensed alternatives like Botim are permitted.

Does it cover both Dubai and Abu Dhabi?+

Yes. It's a single plan covering all seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, with nothing to swap as you travel between them.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
