Orange in the towns

Your eSIM connects to Orange on 4G. Gaborone, Francistown, Maun and Kasane are covered, as are the main tarmac roads linking them.

Botswana is roughly the size of France with around two and a half million people in it, most of them in the east. The Kalahari covers much of the country and has almost no network at all.

The Okavango Delta is genuinely off-grid

Botswana built its tourism model around low-volume, high-value access to wilderness, and the Delta camps are deliberately remote. Most are reached by light aircraft and have no mobile coverage whatsoever.

Camps typically have satellite Wi-Fi, often limited to certain hours or areas, precisely so guests aren't on their phones during a mokoro trip. This is by design rather than by accident, and worth expecting.

Maun is the gateway town and is well covered — do your uploading, banking and messaging there before you fly in.

How much data

Given how much of a Botswana trip is spent beyond coverage, buy small. 1 GB at £7.99 covers the town time on a typical safari itinerary. There is little point buying more for camps you can't use it in.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Will I have signal in the Okavango Delta?+

Almost certainly not. Delta camps are deliberately remote, reached by light aircraft, and most have no mobile coverage. Many provide limited satellite Wi-Fi at set hours. Do anything important from Maun before you fly in.

How much data should I buy?+

Less than you'd expect. Most of a Botswana safari is spent out of coverage by design, so 1 GB typically covers the connected town time. Buying more just means paying for data you can't reach.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.

Your eSIM hops onto the strongest of Botswana’s local networks automatically — no setup, no choosing.
