Travel advice comes first
UK Foreign Office advice has for several years advised against all travel to large parts of Burkina Faso, and against all but essential travel to the remainder including Ouagadougou. The security situation has deteriorated significantly.
That advice invalidates most standard travel insurance. Check the current position before making any plans. We list the destination because humanitarian staff, journalists and people with family connections do travel.
A pricing quirk worth knowing
Our supplier prices Burkina Faso oddly: the 1 GB plan and the 3 GB plan both cost £7.99. Same price, three times the data.
There is no scenario in which the 1 GB plan is the better buy. If you're purchasing here, take the 3 GB. We could quietly leave that for you to notice, but that isn't how we'd want to be treated.
Orange coverage
Your eSIM connects to Orange on 4G. Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and the main paved roads between the larger towns are covered.
The Sahel regions to the north and east have much less coverage and are subject to the most severe travel restrictions. Anyone travelling professionally should follow their organisation's security protocols, which will take precedence over anything here.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Should I be travelling to Burkina Faso?+
UK advice is against all travel to large parts of the country and against all but essential travel elsewhere, including the capital. It invalidates most insurance. Check current FCDO guidance — we list the plan for humanitarian and press work and for those with family there.
Why does the 3 GB plan cost the same as the 1 GB one?+
A quirk in our supplier's pricing for Burkina Faso. Both are £7.99. There's no reason to buy the 1 GB — take the 3 GB and get three times the data for the same money.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
