Travel advice comes first
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to the Central African Republic. Consular support is extremely limited and standard travel insurance will not cover a journey made against that advice.
We list the destination because humanitarian organisations, peacekeeping personnel and journalists work here and need connectivity. It is not a travel recommendation in any sense.
Orange, and an honest note on speed
Your eSIM connects to Orange on 3G rather than 4G or 5G. That means messaging, email and basic browsing will work; video calls will be unreliable and anything data-heavy will be slow.
Coverage concentrates around Bangui and a small number of larger towns. The great majority of the country — dense forest and savannah with very little infrastructure — has no network at all.
Practical notes
Plans here run to three tiers only, topping out at 5 GB for £30.99.
Anyone operating in the country professionally will have satellite communications and organisational security protocols. A mobile connection should be treated as a convenience where it happens to work, never as a primary or reliable means of contact.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Should I be travelling to the Central African Republic?+
UK advice is against all travel, consular support is extremely limited and standard insurance won't cover you. Check the current FCDO position. We list the plan for humanitarian, peacekeeping and press work.
How fast is the connection?+
3G only, and concentrated around Bangui and a few larger towns. Messaging, email and basic browsing work; video calls will be unreliable. Most of the country has no coverage at all.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
