Check travel advice, region by region
UK travel advice restricts travel to substantial parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri where armed conflict has been ongoing for years.
The position differs sharply between Kinshasa and the east. Check the current guidance for the specific provinces you plan to be in — it affects insurance validity directly.
Vodacom coverage across a vast country
Your eSIM connects to Vodacom on 5G. Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Goma, Bukavu and Kisangani have coverage, as do the main urban corridors.
The DRC is roughly the size of western Europe with very little road infrastructure — much of the country is reached by river or air. Coverage outside the cities is limited, and the rainforest interior has effectively none.
Not to be confused with Congo-Brazzaville
The Republic of the Congo, capital Brazzaville, is a separate country directly across the river and has its own plan. The two capitals are visible from one another but the networks are entirely distinct.
At £4.99 a gigabyte the DRC is actually the cheaper of the two. 3 GB at £12.99 covers a working fortnight in the covered urban areas.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Is travel advice the same across the DRC?+
No. Advice for the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri is far more restrictive than for Kinshasa, given ongoing armed conflict. Check the current FCDO guidance for the specific provinces you'll be in.
Is this the same as Congo-Brazzaville?+
No. Congo-Brazzaville is the Republic of the Congo, a separate and smaller country across the river with its own plan. The capitals face each other but the networks are entirely distinct.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
