An honest note on speed
Your eSIM connects to AirtelTigo, and in Ghana that's a 3G connection rather than 4G or 5G. We'd rather say so plainly on the page than let you discover it after buying.
What that means in practice: maps, WhatsApp, email, web browsing and social media all work. Video calling is possible but will be inconsistent. HD streaming and large uploads will be slow or frustrating.
If your trip depends on video calls or moving large files, plan around hotel Wi-Fi rather than relying on this.
Where it works
Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Takoradi and Tamale are covered, as are the main trunk roads. The Volta region and the northern savannah are thinner.
Ghana is one of the more straightforward West African countries to travel in, and having maps and messaging — which 3G handles perfectly well — makes a real difference to getting about independently.
How much data
Given the speeds, you'll naturally use less than on a fast connection. 3 GB at £7.99 covers a fortnight of maps, messaging and browsing comfortably. There's little point buying a large plan you can't use quickly.

Is it really only 3G?+
Yes. Our Ghana coverage is on AirtelTigo's 3G network. Maps, messaging, email and browsing work fine; video calls are inconsistent and HD streaming will frustrate you. We'd rather tell you upfront than have you find out afterwards.
Should I buy a large plan?+
Probably not. At 3G speeds you'll get through less data than you would elsewhere, so 3 GB usually covers a fortnight of practical use. Lean on hotel Wi-Fi for anything heavy.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
