Claro across the highlands

Your eSIM connects to Claro on 4G. Guatemala City, Antigua, Panajachel and the Atitlán villages, Quetzaltenango and Flores are all covered, as are the main highland roads.

The Petén jungle around Tikal has coverage at the site and in Flores. The remoter northern lowlands and the Ixil triangle are thinner.

Lake Atitlán and the volcano hikes

The lake villages — Panajachel, San Pedro, San Marcos, Santiago — all have coverage, and the boats between them mostly hold signal given the short crossings.

The Acatenango overnight hike, which most Antigua visitors end up doing to watch Fuego erupt, has patchy coverage on the way up and reasonable signal at some of the higher camps. Don't count on it. It's a hard climb at altitude in cold conditions, and your guide's arrangements matter more than your phone.

How much data

A fortnight covering Antigua, Atitlán and Tikal runs on 3 GB. Add heavy uploads and 5 GB at £14.99 is safer. Hostels and hotels around the lake generally have Wi-Fi, if not always fast.

Questions, answered

Will I have signal on the Acatenango hike?+

Patchily on the way up and at some higher camps, but don't plan around it. It's a demanding overnight climb at altitude — your guide's arrangements are what matter.

Is there coverage at Tikal?+

Yes, at the site and in Flores nearby. The deeper Petén jungle beyond the main complex is much thinner.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
