Claro across the Pacific side

Your eSIM connects to Claro on 4G. Managua, Granada, León, San Juan del Sur and Rivas are all covered, as is the Pacific coast road and the Interamericana.

The Caribbean coast is a different country in practice — Bluefields and the Corn Islands have limited coverage, and the jungle between is largely without.

Ometepe and the volcano climbs

Ometepe, the island of two volcanoes in Lake Nicaragua, has coverage around Moyogalpa and Altagracia and along the main road. The Concepción and Maderas climbs lose it fairly quickly, and both are steeper and muddier than the elevation suggests.

The ferry from San Jorge is about an hour and holds signal for most of the crossing. León's volcano boarding on Cerro Negro is close enough to town to keep coverage.

How much data

A fortnight covering Granada, León and Ometepe runs on 3 GB. A month including surf time on the Pacific coast wants 5 GB at £12.99. Nicaragua is one of the cheaper Central American destinations for data.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is there coverage on Ometepe?+

Around Moyogalpa, Altagracia and the main road, yes. The Concepción and Maderas volcano climbs lose signal quickly — both are harder walks than they look, so go with a guide.

What about the Corn Islands and the Caribbean coast?+

Limited. The Corn Islands and Bluefields have some coverage; the jungle between them and the Pacific side has very little. Plan for patchy service on that half of the country.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
