Movistar coverage
Your eSIM connects to Movistar on 4G. Panama City is one of the most developed capitals in Central America and thoroughly covered, as is the canal corridor, Colón, David and the Pan-American Highway.
Bocas del Toro has coverage on the main islands. Boquete and the Chiriquí highlands are covered in town and patchy on the trails.
San Blas is genuinely off-grid
The Guna Yala islands, better known as San Blas, are an autonomous indigenous region of several hundred small islands, and they are largely without mobile coverage. Many have no mains electricity either.
This is the point of going, and worth planning for. Boat operators and island hosts arrange things by radio or by turning up. Confirm your pickup, your return date and your onward travel before you leave the mainland, because you will not be doing it from a hammock.
How much data
A week in Panama City and the canal area runs on 1 GB at £5.99. A fortnight including Bocas and the highlands wants 3 GB. Panama is pricier per gigabyte than its neighbours, so size sensibly given how much of San Blas you'll spend offline.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal in San Blas?+
Almost certainly not. The Guna Yala islands are largely without mobile coverage and many have no mains power. Confirm pickups, return dates and onward travel before you leave the mainland.
Is there coverage at the canal locks?+
Yes. Miraflores, Agua Clara and the canal corridor generally are well covered, as is Panama City throughout.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
