Orange on the mainland
Your eSIM connects to Orange on 4G. Bissau, Bafatá, Gabú and the main road network have coverage.
Guinea-Bissau is small, low-lying and one of the least developed countries in West Africa for tourism infrastructure. Coverage outside the towns is limited.
The Bijagós archipelago
The Bijagós are 88 islands and islets off the coast, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and genuinely one of the more remarkable places in West Africa — home to saltwater hippos, nesting turtles and a matrilineal island culture that has retained considerable autonomy.
Only around twenty islands are inhabited and coverage is minimal. Bubaque has some; the outer islands have essentially none. Boats run irregularly and are weather-dependent, so confirm return arrangements before you go out and expect plans to move.
Practical notes
Getting around Guinea-Bissau requires patience. Roads deteriorate in the rains, boats leave when they leave, and there is little formal tourist infrastructure.
1 GB at £6.99 covers the mainland time on most trips. There's little point buying more for islands where you won't have coverage.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Is there coverage in the Bijagós islands?+
Minimal. Bubaque has some; the outer islands essentially none. Boats are irregular and weather-dependent, so confirm your return before heading out and expect the schedule to move.
How much data should I buy?+
1 GB usually covers the mainland portion of a trip. Since the islands are largely without coverage, there's little sense in buying a larger plan you can't use out there.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
