Read the travel advice before you read anything else

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has for years advised against all travel to Libya. That advice invalidates most standard travel insurance and reflects genuine, ongoing security concerns.

We list the destination because people do go — aid workers, journalists, energy sector staff and those with family there — and they need connectivity like anyone else. But we're not going to write beach copy for a country under that advisory. Check the current position before you book anything.

Madar coverage

Your eSIM connects to Madar on 4G. Coverage concentrates on the northern coastal strip where the population is — Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata, Sirte and the road between them.

The Sahara interior south of the coastal belt has minimal coverage. Service across the country can be interrupted for reasons unrelated to your plan, including infrastructure damage and power supply.

Practical notes

Libya is among our more expensive destinations, reflecting wholesale rates in a difficult market. 1 GB at £11.99 is the entry point.

If you are travelling for work, your organisation will almost certainly have its own communications protocols. Treat this as a supplementary connection rather than a primary one.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Should I be travelling to Libya?+

UK travel advice has for years advised against all travel to Libya, which invalidates most standard travel insurance. Check the current FCDO position before booking. We list the plan for those who do travel — often for work — rather than as a recommendation.

How reliable is the connection?+

Coverage exists along the northern coastal strip but service can be interrupted by infrastructure and power issues unrelated to your plan. If you're travelling for work, treat this as supplementary to your organisation's own arrangements.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
