Maxis and CelcomDigi, peninsula and Borneo
Your eSIM connects to Maxis and CelcomDigi, both on 5G. Malaysia splits across two land masses and this plan covers both — the peninsula and the Bornean states of Sabah and Sarawak, with nothing extra to buy.
Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Malacca, Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching are all well covered. The peninsula's east coast and the main highways hold up throughout.
Borneo is where it gets interesting
Sabah and Sarawak are covered around the cities and coastal towns, but the interior is proper rainforest. The Kinabatangan river, the Mulu caves, the Danum Valley and the trek up Kinabalu all have limited or no signal.
That's the point of going, and the lodges know it — most have their own satellite connections or scheduled Wi-Fi. Download your maps and let people know you'll be off-grid for a few days rather than assuming you'll get a message out.
Choosing a plan
A week in KL and Penang runs fine on 3 GB. Two weeks including Langkawi and some island time wants 5 GB at £4.99. A month covering the peninsula and Borneo suits the 20 GB at £12.99.

Questions, answered
Does it cover Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo?+
Yes, both are included on the same Malaysia plan. Coverage is good around Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and the coastal towns, and limited or absent in the rainforest interior.
Will I have signal in the Borneo jungle lodges?+
Usually not on the mobile network — the Kinabatangan, Danum Valley and Mulu are genuinely remote. Most lodges provide their own satellite Wi-Fi at set times. Plan to be off-grid and tell people in advance.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
