Ncell and Nepal Telecom

Your eSIM connects to Ncell and Nepal Telecom on 4G. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and the Terai lowlands are well covered, as are the main highways.

Having both networks is genuinely useful here, because their mountain coverage differs — Nepal Telecom reaches into some valleys Ncell doesn't, and the reverse is true elsewhere.

Trekking coverage is better than you'd expect, and still not reliable

Mobile coverage along the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit routes has expanded considerably. Namche Bazaar, Lukla and many of the teahouse villages have signal, and you can often get a message out from surprisingly high up.

Do not plan around it. Coverage is patchy, weather-dependent, and absent across the passes and high camps. Trekking companies use satellite comms for a reason. Download your maps, carry a paper backup, and treat any signal you get as a bonus rather than a safety system.

How much data

A fortnight in Kathmandu and Pokhara with a short trek runs on 5 GB at £13.99. A longer expedition wants 10 GB, though you'll use less than you expect once you're above the treeline and mostly out of coverage anyway.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Will I have signal trekking to Everest Base Camp?+

In places. Lukla, Namche Bazaar and several teahouse villages have coverage, and messages often get out from high up. It's patchy and weather-dependent though — never treat it as a safety system. Trekking operators carry satellite comms for good reason.

Do I need a permit or registration for the eSIM?+

No. Trekking permits are a separate matter entirely, but the eSIM itself needs no registration — it's issued before you travel and works on arrival.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
