Travel advice comes first

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to Niger. The security situation across the Sahel has deteriorated markedly, consular support is extremely limited, and standard insurance will not cover a trip made against that advice.

We list the destination because humanitarian organisations, journalists and people with family connections do travel. It is not a recommendation.

Airtel coverage

Your eSIM connects to Airtel Niger on 4G. Niamey, Maradi, Zinder and Agadez have coverage, along with the main routes in the populated south.

Niger is largely Saharan. The Aïr mountains, the Ténéré desert and the vast northern interior have essentially no network, and are subject to the most severe travel restrictions in any case.

Practical notes

1 GB is £5.99, rising to 20 GB at £94.99.

Anyone in the country professionally will have satellite communications and security protocols in place. Treat mobile coverage as a convenience where it exists, not as a dependable means of contact.

Questions, answered

Should I be travelling to Niger?+

UK advice is against all travel, consular support is extremely limited and standard insurance won't cover you. Check current FCDO guidance. We list the plan for humanitarian and press work and for those with family connections.

Is there coverage in the Sahara?+

Essentially none. The Aïr mountains, the Ténéré and the northern interior have no network, and travel advice restricts those areas most severely in any case.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.

Networks

Your eSIM hops onto the strongest of Niger’s local networks automatically — no setup, no choosing.
