Airtel across a small, well-organised country

Your eSIM connects to Airtel on 4G. Rwanda is compact, densely populated and notably well administered, and coverage reflects that — Kigali, Musanze, Rubavu, Huye and the tarmac road network are all well served.

The country is famously hilly, and signal drops in the deeper valleys. Nyungwe forest and the upper slopes of the Virunga volcanoes have little to none.

Kigali, and why visitors notice it

Kigali is consistently described as one of the cleanest and best-organised cities in Africa, and it is genuinely easy to get around. Ride-hailing works, addresses make sense, and the roads are good.

All of which makes data more useful here than in places where you'd rely on a fixer. You can reasonably navigate Rwanda yourself, and a working connection is what makes that practical.

Gorilla trekking and data sizing

Volcanoes national park treks go well beyond coverage, and the permits are among the most expensive wildlife experiences anywhere — worth confirming every detail in advance.

Rwanda is pricier per gigabyte than its neighbours. 1 GB at £8.99 covers a week in Kigali and around; buy larger only if you're working from there.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is there coverage during a gorilla trek?+

No. The Volcanoes national park slopes have little to none, and treks run for hours. Confirm permits, briefing times and transfers the day before — especially given what the permits cost.

Is Kigali easy to get around with just data?+

Yes, unusually so. Ride-hailing works, the roads are good and addresses are logical, so a data connection genuinely lets you navigate the city independently.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.

Networks

Your eSIM hops onto the strongest of Rwanda’s local networks automatically — no setup, no choosing.
