Travel advice comes first
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against travel to Sudan, and has done throughout the ongoing conflict. Standard travel insurance will not cover a trip made against that advice.
We list the destination because connectivity matters to people with family there, to those working in humanitarian roles, and to journalists. It is not a holiday recommendation and we won't dress it up as one.
Zain coverage, and its limits
Your eSIM connects to Zain on 4G. Coverage historically concentrated around Khartoum, Omdurman, Port Sudan and the Nile corridor.
Network availability across Sudan has been severely disrupted by the conflict, with infrastructure damage and power failures causing extended outages in many areas. Whether a connection is available in a given place at a given time is not something we or any provider can predict or guarantee.
Plan sizes
Sudan offers three tiers, topping out at 5 GB — 1 GB at £7.99, 3 GB at £20.99 and 5 GB at £33.99.
If you are travelling in a professional capacity, your organisation will have its own communications planning. This should be treated as a supplementary option, not a primary one.

Questions, answered
Should I be travelling to Sudan?+
UK travel advice advises against travel to Sudan and has done throughout the ongoing conflict, which also means standard insurance won't cover you. Check current FCDO guidance. We list the plan for those with family there or working in humanitarian and press roles.
Will the network actually be working?+
We can't guarantee it. Sudan's mobile infrastructure has been severely disrupted by the conflict, with damage and power failures causing extended outages. Availability in any given place at any given time is unpredictable.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
Networks
Your eSIM hops onto the strongest of Sudan’s local networks automatically — no setup, no choosing.
