MegaFon and ZET in the valleys
Your eSIM connects to MegaFon on 4G and ZET on 5G. Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob and the main valley roads are covered.
Tajikistan is over ninety per cent mountain, and that shapes everything. The Fann range, the Zarafshan valley and the Pamirs have coverage only in the larger settlements.
The Pamir Highway
The M41 from Dushanbe through Khorog to Murghab and on toward Osh is one of the highest and most remote roads in the world, crossing passes over 4,600m along the Afghan border.
Coverage is minimal. Khorog and Murghab have some; the vast stretches between have none. This is a serious undertaking — permits are required for the Gorno-Badakhshan region, vehicles break, weather closes passes, and there is genuinely nobody around. Travel with people who know what they're doing, carry a satellite communicator, and treat your phone as a camera.
How much data
Given how much of a Tajik trip is beyond coverage, buy modestly. 1 GB at £2.99 covers Dushanbe and the connected stretches for a week; 3 GB gives room for a longer stay in the valleys.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal on the Pamir Highway?+
Barely. Khorog and Murghab have some coverage; the long stretches between have none. It's a genuinely remote high-altitude route — carry a satellite communicator and travel with people who know the road.
Do I need permits for the Pamirs?+
Yes, the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region requires a separate permit alongside your visa. That's independent of your eSIM but essential to arrange before you travel.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
