Airtel across the country
Your eSIM connects to Airtel on 5G. Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja, Mbarara and the main tarmac roads are all well covered, and Uganda's compact size and dense population help — this is not a country of vast empty distances.
Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls national parks have coverage around the gates and lodges. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, being impenetrable forest, does not.
Gorilla trekking, and being offline for it
A gorilla permit is a substantial investment and the trek itself can take anywhere from one to eight hours through dense forest at altitude. There is no meaningful coverage in there.
Your guides carry radios and the operation is well run. What matters practically is confirming your permit details, your briefing time and your transfers the day before, from the lodge, rather than assuming you'll sort anything on the morning.
How much data
A fortnight covering Kampala, Jinja and a couple of parks runs on 3 GB. Lodges generally have Wi-Fi, and you'll be out of coverage during the trekking anyway, so there's little sense over-buying at these rates.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal gorilla trekking in Bwindi?+
No. The forest has no meaningful coverage and treks can run several hours. Guides carry radios. Confirm your permit, briefing time and transfers from the lodge the evening before.
Is coverage good in the national parks?+
Around the gates and lodges in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, generally yes. Deeper into the parks and in the forest reserves, expect to lose it.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
