An autonomous region with its own network
Åland is an autonomous, demilitarised, Swedish-speaking region of Finland sitting in the Baltic between Stockholm and Turku. It has its own parliament, its own flag and — relevantly here — its own mobile operator.
Your eSIM connects to Ålcom on 5G. A Finland plan will not necessarily serve you here, and neither will a Sweden plan, despite the islands sitting between the two.
Cycling the archipelago
Åland is one of the great cycling destinations in northern Europe — flat, quiet, and linked by a network of free cable ferries and cheap inter-island boats. The main island and the larger neighbours are well covered.
The outer archipelago thins considerably. Ferry crossings between the eastern islands drop signal, and some of the smaller islands have very little. Download the ferry timetables, which are seasonal and don't run frequently — missing one can mean a long wait.

1 GB at £2.99 covers a long weekend in Mariehamn and the main island. 3 GB at £4.99 gives room for a week of island-hopping.
Worth noting that the Stockholm and Turku ferries pass through Åland waters, which is why the ships call here — duty-free rules depend on it.

Will my Finland or Sweden plan work in Åland?+
Not reliably. Åland is an autonomous Finnish region with its own operator, Ålcom, and sits between the two countries. If you're spending real time here, buy the Åland plan.
Is there coverage in the outer archipelago?+
It thins considerably. The main island and larger neighbours are well covered; the smaller eastern islands and the ferry crossings between them are patchy. Download the seasonal ferry timetables in advance.
How do I install it?+
