The Salar de Uyuni
The salt flat is roughly 10,000 square kilometres of nothing, which is precisely its appeal and precisely why there's no signal on it. Multi-day tours cross into the Eduardo Avaroa reserve toward the Chilean border and spend two or three days entirely out of coverage.
Agree your itinerary, your return and any onward bus or flight before you leave Uyuni town. Tour operators work on trust and radio out there, and your phone will be a camera for the duration.
Altitude and data sizing
La Paz airport sits above 4,000m, which is higher than most people have ever been on arrival. Having data to look up symptoms or message someone on that first evening is genuinely worth something.
Bolivia is expensive per gigabyte, so buy modestly — 1 GB at £7.99 covers the connected parts of a fortnight for most travellers.

Will I have signal on the Uyuni salt flats?+
No. The salar and the Avaroa reserve beyond it have no coverage, and multi-day tours are offline for two to three days. Settle your onward travel before leaving Uyuni town.
How much data should I buy for Bolivia?+
Less than you might for a similar-length trip elsewhere. Bolivia is pricier per gigabyte and you'll be out of coverage for the salt flats and much of the countryside — 1 GB covers most travellers' connected time.
How do I install it?+
