Movistar on the mainland

Your eSIM connects to Movistar on 4G. Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Baños and the Avenue of the Volcanoes are all well covered, as is the coastal strip.

The Oriente — Ecuador's Amazon region — has coverage in Coca and Tena and very little once you're upriver at a jungle lodge.

The Galápagos, honestly

The islands are Ecuadorian territory and the plan technically extends there, but manage your expectations. The inhabited islands — Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal and Isabela — have coverage in the main towns, Puerto Ayora and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno especially. It is slower and less reliable than the mainland.

The uninhabited islands, which is where the wildlife you came for actually lives, have none. Live-aboard cruises spend most of their time out of coverage. If your trip is boat-based, budget almost nothing for data and rely on the vessel's own arrangements.

How much data

A fortnight on the mainland covering Quito, Cuenca and Baños runs on 3 GB. Add an Amazon leg and you'll use less than you expect, being offline for most of it. 5 GB at £14.99 covers a comprehensive trip.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Does it work in the Galápagos?+

In the main towns on Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal and Isabela, yes, though it's slower than the mainland. The uninhabited islands and live-aboard cruises have no coverage at all — budget almost nothing for data if your trip is boat-based.

Will I have signal at an Amazon lodge?+

Generally not. Coca and Tena are covered; once you're upriver, coverage stops. Most lodges have their own limited satellite arrangements.

How do I install it?+

After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.

Will it work on my phone?+

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.

When does my plan start?+

Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.

Can I keep using my normal number?+

Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
