Three networks on 4G
Your eSIM can use A1, Vivacom and Telenor Bulgaria. Coverage here is on 4G rather than 5G, which in practice is more than enough for maps, messaging, streaming and video calls — worth stating plainly rather than implying otherwise.
Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and the Black Sea coast are all well covered, as are the ski resorts. The Rhodope and Stara Planina interiors are thinner.
The coast in summer, Bansko in winter
Sunny Beach, Golden Sands and Nessebar are comfortably covered, including the beaches themselves. Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo have good coverage across the resort areas and the main pistes.
The Rila and Pirin mountains behind them are a different matter. The hike to the Seven Rila Lakes loses signal in the upper valleys, and the monastery road has patches. Download the route first.
How much data to buy
A week on the Black Sea with hotel Wi-Fi doing most of the work runs on 1 GB at £1.00. A ski week in Bansko with resort apps and uploads wants 3 GB. A fortnight touring the country suits 5 GB at £3.99.

Is it 5G in Bulgaria?+
