Vodafone and O2 coverage
Your eSIM connects to Vodafone Germany and O2, both on 5G. Cities, the Rhine and Ruhr corridors, Bavaria's tourist routes and the main autobahns are all well covered.
Germany's rural mobile coverage has a reputation, and not an entirely undeserved one — for a country of its wealth, the gaps in the Eifel, parts of Brandenburg and stretches of the Bavarian Forest are more noticeable than you'd expect. It's a long-running national grumble rather than anything specific to your eSIM.
Deutsche Bahn and the signal joke
German rail passengers complain about onboard mobile coverage with a consistency that borders on national sport. Long-distance ICE routes have improved but still drop out through cuttings, tunnels and rural stretches.
If you've a video call scheduled on a Munich–Hamburg run, don't count on it holding for four hours. Download what you need at the station.
Sizing your plan
A city break in Berlin or Munich runs happily on 1 GB at £1.00. A week doing the Romantic Road or the Christmas markets wants 3 GB. Business travellers or anyone tethering a laptop should take 10 GB at £6.99.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal on ICE trains?+
Usually, with gaps. Long-distance routes have decent trackside coverage that still drops through tunnels and rural sections — it's a well-known German grumble. Download anything essential before you board.
Is coverage good outside the cities?+
Along the autobahns and in the tourist regions, yes. Germany does have genuine rural gaps in areas like the Eifel and the Bavarian Forest that affect all networks, local ones included.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
