Not covered by a Denmark plan
Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark with its own telecoms operator, and a Denmark plan does not extend here. Nor does any European roaming bundle.
Your eSIM connects to TELE Greenland on 4G, the sole operator, which serves the settlements along the coast.
There are no roads between towns
This is the fact that reframes everything about travelling in Greenland. Settlements are connected by air and sea only — there is no road network linking towns, and the ice sheet covers around eighty per cent of the island.
Coverage exists in and around the settlements: Nuuk, Ilulissat, Sisimiut, Qaqortoq and the smaller villages. Between them there is essentially nothing. Boat trips to the icefjord, helicopter transfers and any trekking on or near the ice sheet are entirely without signal.
Weather, delays and how much data
Flights and ferries in Greenland are frequently delayed or cancelled by weather, sometimes for days. Being able to check and rebook from a settlement matters more here than in most places, because itineraries genuinely do collapse.
Greenland is expensive per gigabyte. 1 GB at £9.99 covers the settlement time on a typical trip — there's little point buying more for the parts you'll spend beyond coverage.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Does a Denmark plan cover Greenland?+
No. Greenland is autonomous within the Kingdom of Denmark and has its own operator, TELE Greenland. Neither a Denmark plan nor any European roaming bundle extends here.
Will I have signal between towns?+
There are no roads between towns — travel is by air and sea, and coverage exists only in and around settlements. Boat trips, ice sheet excursions and transfers are entirely offline.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
