Three networks, which matters in Italy
Your eSIM can use TIM, Iliad and Wind, all carrying 5G. Three networks is unusually generous and genuinely useful here, because Italian coverage varies a lot with terrain — TIM has the broadest rural footprint, and having alternatives helps in the hill towns.
Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples and the lakes are all strong. The Apennine interior, parts of Basilicata and the higher Dolomite valleys are where signal thins.
The Amalfi Coast and other pretty dead spots
The Amalfi Coast road is one of those places where the view and the signal are inversely correlated. Cliffs, tunnels and switchbacks mean you'll drop out repeatedly between Sorrento and Salerno. Same story on the Cinque Terre trails and in the deeper Tuscan valleys.
None of it is a problem if you download the map before you set off. It is a problem if you're relying on live directions to find a hotel above Positano at dusk.
How much you'll need
A city break in Rome or Florence runs fine on 1 GB at £1.00. Two weeks touring Tuscany and the coast wants 5 GB. If you're driving the length of the country or working from Milan for a month, take the 20 GB.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Does it cover Sicily and Sardinia?+
Yes, both are included in the Italy plan at no extra cost. Coastal areas and the main towns are well covered; the mountainous interiors of both islands have gaps, as they do for local networks.
Is Vatican City covered by the Italy plan?+
In practice yes — Vatican City sits inside Rome and your phone will hold the Italian networks throughout. We do list Vatican City separately, but for a normal visit to St Peter's the Italy plan is all you need.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
