Orange and Vodafone coverage
Your eSIM connects to Orange Romania on 5G and Vodafone on 4G. Romania has surprisingly good mobile infrastructure — the country invested early and consistently ranks well for fixed and mobile speeds.
Bucharest, Cluj, Brașov, Sibiu, Timișoara and the main Transylvanian towns are all strongly covered, as is the Black Sea coast around Constanța.
The Carpathians and the Transfăgărășan
The mountain roads are the gap. The Transfăgărășan and Transalpina are spectacular, high, and only open in summer, and both lose signal for long stretches through the passes.
The Carpathian hiking trails and the more remote Maramureș villages are similarly patchy. Bran, Peleș and the castle circuit that most visitors do are all fine. Download maps if you're driving the passes — there's very little up there, phone signal included.
Sizing your plan
A long weekend in Bucharest or Brașov runs fine on 1 GB at £1.00. A week driving Transylvania with maps on constantly wants 5 GB. There's a 50 GB plan valid 180 days at £44.99 for longer or repeat trips.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal on the Transfăgărășan?+
Only patchily. The high mountain passes lose coverage for long stretches, and the road is seasonal anyway. Download offline maps before you drive it — there's very little up there of any kind.
Is coverage good in Transylvania?+
Yes, in the towns and along the main roads. Brașov, Sibiu, Cluj and the castle circuit are all well covered. Remote Carpathian villages and hiking trails are where it thins.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
