Orange and O2 across the country
Your eSIM connects to Orange Slovensko and O2 Slovakia, both on 5G. Bratislava, Košice, Žilina and the main towns are well covered, as are the roads linking them.
Slovakia is more mountainous than its neighbours and coverage follows the valleys. The Tatra resort towns are strong; the ridges above them are not.
Hiking the Tatras
The High Tatras are the reason most visitors come, and they're a serious mountain range compressed into a small area. Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica all have good coverage, as do the funiculars and cable cars.
Once you're on the ridge trails, expect to lose it. Slovak mountain rescue is excellent but you should not be relying on a phone signal to summon it — carry a map, check the weather before you leave the valley, and note that many high routes close in winter.
How much data to take
A weekend in Bratislava is comfortable on 1 GB at £1.00. A week's hiking or skiing in the Tatras wants 3 GB. The 50 GB plan runs 180 days at £44.99 if you visit more than once a year.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Will I have signal hiking in the High Tatras?+
In the resort towns and on the cable cars, yes. On the ridge trails, frequently not. Carry a paper map and check conditions before you leave the valley — don't treat a phone as your safety plan up there.
Is Bratislava close enough to Austria to pick up an Austrian network?+
It can happen — Bratislava sits right on the border and signal spills over. Your phone should prefer the Slovak networks, but it's worth a glance at the carrier name if you're out toward Devín.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
