Why Switzerland catches British travellers out
Switzerland is not in the EU, and it's routinely excluded from UK network roaming bundles that cover the rest of Europe. Travellers assume they're fine because Italy and France were, then come home to a bill that costs more than the ski pass.
An eSIM sidesteps that entirely. Your plan starts at £1.00 and there is no per-megabyte charge waiting at the end of it.
Sunrise and Salt in the mountains
Your eSIM connects to Sunrise and Salt, both on 5G. Swiss mobile coverage is genuinely outstanding given the terrain — the valleys, the resort towns, the lakes and even a lot of the higher cable-car stations have signal.
The panoramic rail routes, including the Glacier Express and the Bernina line, hold up well between tunnels. Off-piste and deep in the side valleys you'll drop out, as you'd expect.
How much data
A long weekend in Zurich or Interlaken runs fine on 1 GB. A week of skiing or hiking with maps and photo uploads wants 3 GB at £2.99. A fortnight touring by rail suits the 5 GB.
Good to know
Questions, answered
Is Switzerland covered by my UK roaming allowance?+
Often not. Switzerland is outside the EU and is commonly excluded from UK networks' Europe roaming bundles, which is why travellers get caught out. Check your provider, or sidestep it with an eSIM from £1.00.
Will I have signal up the mountains?+
Generally yes. Swiss coverage is excellent for the terrain, reaching the resort towns, most cable-car stations and the main rail routes. Deep side valleys and off-piste areas will drop out.
How do I install it?+
After checkout we email your eSIM and a QR code. Scan it in your phone's settings, switch the line on, and you're ready — do it before you fly and it activates when you land.
Will it work on my phone?+
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, recent Samsung/Pixel). Check your phone in Settings, or use our compatibility checker.
When does my plan start?+
Validity counts from first connection in the destination, not from purchase — so you can buy and install early without wasting days.
Can I keep using my normal number?+
Yes. The eSIM is data-only and runs alongside your usual SIM, so calls and texts on your main number still work.
