Claro across the Andes and the coast
Your eSIM connects to Claro on 4G, which has the widest reach in Peru. Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Puno, Trujillo and the Sacred Valley towns are all well covered, as is the coastal Panamericana.
The Andes between them are patchy by nature, and the Amazon east of the mountains has coverage in Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado and very little beyond.
Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail
Aguas Calientes, the town below the site, has coverage. The citadel itself has some, though it's inconsistent and you'll be told repeatedly to put the phone away, which is fair enough.
The classic four-day Inca Trail has effectively none. Neither does the Salkantay or most of the alternative treks. Your operator carries radios. Sort your return train and hotel before you set off, and let people know you'll be out of contact for the duration.
Altitude, and how much data
Cusco sits at 3,400m and plenty of visitors spend the first day flat on a hotel bed. Being able to look up altitude sickness advice, or message someone about it, is a reasonable argument for having data on arrival.

Will I have signal on the Inca Trail?+
Effectively none for the four days. The same goes for the Salkantay and most alternative treks. Confirm your return train and accommodation before you start walking, and warn people you'll be offline.
Is there coverage at Machu Picchu itself?+
Some, though inconsistent — Aguas Calientes below is better covered. You'll also be asked to keep your phone away at the site, which is a reasonable request.
How do I install it?+
